there are hundreds out there, and yours is a decent list, but I'd say you missed up-and-comer LiquidProject with a unique handling off elastic deadlines, and market veteran Tenrox for enterprise-level project management

Another great tool for online project planning and tracking is Intervals. It is a lot like many of the products listed here, but like them, has its own way of getting things done.

I use DeskAway as my PM tool, I wonder whether you have used that.
They have free plan which allows 3 projects and 5 users, moreover the free plan does not expire! Many powerful features and affordable rates.

Thanks for the shout-out on Vertabase project management software.

Most of these tools are extremely similar in both functionality and interface. It always amazes me how many small businesses out there are tapping into the Project Management Software market.

I feel DeskAway should have been mentioned here. It is an excellent project management & collaboration tool.

If you would like a tool to manage your small business activities and Projects, you can use this web aplication:

    http://www.Gtdagenda.com

You can use it to manage and prioritize your Goals (for business but also in other areas of your life), Projects and Tasks. It has a Checklists section, for the routines and repetitive activities that any business has to do. Also, it features a Schedules section and a Calendar, for scheduling you time and activities.

Features from GTD are also present, like Contexts and Next Actions.

And it's available on the mobile phone too, so you can access it from anywhere.

Thanks for including Autotask in your list of top online project management planning tools. I just wanted to clarify for everyone that Autotask is a completely integrated business management solution designed specifically for the IT services market. In addition to Project Portfolio Management, the hosted solution includes a robust Issue Management (service desk) module, full CRM, Time Tracking Billing, Inventory, Outsourcing and more starting at just $29 per month per user. Thanks again for including us in such great company!

I think what Marty meant to say was LiquidPlanner, and I agree that it has a very powerful scheduling engine, taking into account the uncertainty that we all need to have in our project schedule. Why setup a project schedule with hard dates and then have it become irrelevant once the project gets going (or a huge pain of a task to keep updated), LiquidPlanner has this covered in addition to many other valuable features (ones mentioned above, and more)

An interesting list, though i don't believe that all these tools feature your own criteria like customized workflows. One thing I would definitely include as a must have for a powerful pm tool - ACL permissions, simply a must for big projects. It will soon be launched with the new version of our http://www.comindwork.com

Thanks for the extensive list! With a myriad of options to choose from, it’s no wonder why choosing a project management tool has become such a daunting task.

Thanks for the useful list of tools and descriptions.

For those of you interested in similar lists of online (or desktop) project management software, I’ve compiled lists and reviews at the Task and Project Management Software List.

Note: also includes to-do list and GTD software.

Project Insight is definitely worth a mention, too. Although not a regular employee, I contract with the company that makes it to interview their customers (both huge and very small companies) for success stories, and what they all say again and again is that it's got the more advanced features like intelligent scheduling that PMs need while giving the regular team members the Outlook and Project integration that makes it easy to get up to speed. I'd guess most of us have worked on projects where there was a manager pushing a new PM system and half the team wouldn't even log in to enter their time because of new-app fatigue. I've used Harvest and Basecamp and while those are fine for to-do lists, Project Insight definitely has a lot of power for not a lot of $$. http://www.projectinsight.net/project-managemen...

Great Article. Have you tried out Injoos Teamware. I would reckon that they have the most comprehensive integrated collaboration platform. With their latest release they have added a new twist to track and execute projects "the social way". Checkout their Blog http://injoos.com/blog/2009/10/09/seamless-coll...

Just to add one more web based project management solution to the mix, Project Insight. Project Insight is more of a mid market portfolio and project management software solution. We offer intelligent scheduling (a la Microsoft Project), so if you have 1 or more savvy project managers that want robust functionality, yet ease of use. This could be the right direction.
